Castilla La Mancha has culture, wilderness and unparalleled birdwatching and wildlife. It has wetlands, steppe, dehesa and mountains. Each habitat has its own representative species and is the only autonomous community in Spain to have two national parks, Las Tablas de Daimiel and Cabañeros, both of which are in the region of Ciudad Real. With large populations of birds of prey, waders, steppe birds and migrants there is a richness of avian life few other places in Spain can offer. It is also one of the last refuges of the critically endangered Iberian Lynx.

It has a rich cultural history stretching back to the pre-Roman times of the Iberian and Celtic races who first settled here; it has the remains of Roman towns and villas; mediaeval castles reaching into the skies from times past when the Moors and Christian knights fought here; palaces from the days of conquistadores and great Mediterranean naval battles.
