Western Marsh Harrier (Circus aeruginosus) with wing-tags OL |
I was out at the Laguna de Navaseca near Daimiel last Wednesday when a Marsh Harrier caught my eye. It was flying about the reeds as they do but this one was different. It had tags. The tags were orange and yellow and had the letters OL on them. I managed to get a few shots of it before it went off beyond the reeds to patrol a field.

A bit of searching on Google and an email to who I thought might be able to help me identify it brought this photo below of the bird being ringed at the nest near some abandoned gravel pits at 40º54’N / 05º21’W. It turns out to have been tagged in a place called Ventosa de Río Almar in Salamanca. It was ringed (#7122569) and tagged (OL) as part of the harrier Campaign 2011 of the Grupo de Anillamiento Tormes (Tormes Ringing Group) who are members of the local Salamanca branch of SEO/Birdlife.
