Moths are fantastic creatures. There are so many and for many people a relatively unknown and unseen part of our environmental heritage. Many people are scared of moths for some reason and I always try to tell them that they are but nighttime butterflies. As in previous entries about moths in Ireland, the largest moth in Europe and irruptions of moths you can see that they really are stunning.
Currently we are having somewhat of an irruption of Silver Y moths here in Ciudad Real. The first I noticed was above the post box of our apartment building. Then a day or two later there were hundreds of them on the outskirts of town feeding on the flowers.
The Silver Y gets its name from the marking seen on its forewing which looks like a Y or the Greek letter Gamma. Stay tuned, we have more moths to come.
